Assessing Research, Education and Outreach Needs
to Meet the Growing Demand for Organic Products

2020 Survey of Transitioning
Farmers and Ranchers

You can help ensure future research investments are relevant and responsive to the top needs of organic and transitioning producers!

The Organic Farming Research Foundation and the Organic Seed Alliance request your participation in an important national survey to identify the top challenges facing farmers and ranchers who are transitioning land to certified organic. This feedback is critical to building a comprehensive roadmap for future research investments that help advance organic agriculture across the U.S. Results will be published in updates of OFRF’s National Organic Research Agenda (NORA) report and OSA’s State of Organic Seed (SOS) report.

The survey is voluntary and all responses will be kept confidential. You can skip any questions you prefer not to answer. Under no circumstance will your identity be shared in the resulting data and reports. This work is supported by the Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) grant no. 2019-51300-30249 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Lauren Snyder from the Organic Farming Research Foundation at lauren@ofrf.org.

Please have the person most familiar with the day-to-day management of your farm or ranch complete this survey (such as the farm owner, farm manager, or primary farm operator).

If you are not the person who is most familiar with the operation, please give this survey to the person who is most familiar with the farm/ranch operation.

Please think about both owned and leased acres that are managed by your operation and are currently in transition from conventional production to organic production.

This survey is targeted to operations that are transitioning land to certified organic. We will refer to this process throughout the survey as “transitioning” or “transition.”
